The CMV infection
represents the most common congenital viral
infection, while fetopathy is the most frequent
infection, transmitted from mother to fetus. Most
cytomegalovirus infections remain undiagnosed, due
to the lack of clinical signs, with tendencies of
intermittent reactivation, without relevant
symptoms. The infection is diagnosed with
virological and serological identification methods.
In practice, the serology tests must be correlated
with the virology tests, both to establish a
predictive diagnosis of CMV infection and to reveal
the ways in which the virus is transmitted.
Key words: CMV infection, methods of diagnosis,
serology tests.
