- Abstract -
This article describes an
augmentation of deficient anterior maxillary
alveolar ridge using mandibular symphysis graft (interforaminal
graft). The advantages and disadvantages are
discussed and a successfully treated case is
presented. The mandibular symphysis graft provides
the advantages of autogenous bone and can be
harvested by an intraoral approach. Good volume and
quality of bone can be obtained in the form of a
block, with relatively minimal risks and
postoperative complications. Rigid fixation is
important for graft vascularization and for minimal
graft resorption. Proper case selection, as well as
meticulous surgical technique are required for
favourable results.
